The list of features we currently have in indymedia CMSes

It is assumed this set of features will be the bare minimum we will have to provide in a new solution. That doesn't ofcourse mean it needs to come out-of-the-box from the CMS project we'd choose, but this CMS shouldn't lack too many of them, and it should be fairly easy to add the missing features.

NameDescription
Anonymous open publishingIt should be possible for users to anonymously add content to an indymedia site.
easy mirroring capabilityTo be able to cope with massive hits it should be possible to host mirrors easily. The requirements for a prospective mirror host sdhould be as low as possible. Also it should be easily set up.
syndication -out/inmost indymedia sites offer rss feeds. some indymedia sites also import rss feeds
search
The ability to create multiple instancesIt should be possible to host multiple IMCs on a single server
Multimedia handlingIt should be possible to post images and videos, as these are used frequently by our user base
CategoriesIt should be possible to organise content (i.e. postings) by category, region, type, etc
Good performence on affordable hardwareOur often improvised equipment should be able to host the IMC sites
CustomisabilityThe CMS should allow different IMCs to tailor the organization of their site
internationalisationThe ability to present the navigation of an IMC site in multiple languages / the ability to easily add suported languages
translationThe ability to allow users to anonymously translate postings
commentsThe ability to comment / add clarification / updates to an article is an essential feature on most IMC sites
anti-abuse measuresUnfortunately, a lot of IMC's have to deal with a lot of abuse: spam, trolling, ddos attacks. The CMS should offer the tools to deal with this.
easy moderationmoderation of open postings is one of the least favourite tasks in indymedia collectives. This should be as easy as possible. Think about removing spam postings, hiding racist postings entirely from sight (as is required in some countries)
calendarA lot of IMC sites have a calendar where people can post there activism events on
featuresMost IMCs work with an open newswire and a middle (feature) column with postings by the editorial collective.
