Current video conference applications are limited in the count of user who can participate in the conference at the same time (max. 4 Persons on a Mac with iChat AV.).

To get around this limitations we would like to use live video streams.

Every local techmeet has to setup such a upstream, and at the same time, has to watch the live stream from the other citys.

The delay will make a live interaction almost impossible, but we can do presentations and talk on irc.

  • Option a) oggfwd and icecast2
  • Option a1) theorur and icecast2: howto
  • Option b) Quicktime Broadcaster and Darwin Streaming Server
  • Option c) Asterisk and ekiga - low latency option!
  • Option d) add if you know any..

Things you need (organize them NOW)

  • DV Video Camera
  • Dedicated computer with a firewire port and some cpu power. (more power, less delay)
  • a good internet connection
  • Streaming Server on a 100Mbit Line, only a few hops away from the upstream server.
  • some laptops to watch the multiple live streams in fullscreen mode (use a beamer if you have one)

Details soon...
