free media projects and content management system

Inside Indymedia there is a tendency to all use the same CMS (the word has it Joomla has to replace all current Indymedia's).
Is that the way to go?
How about other projects? Should they also all convert to Joomla? Or are there other CMS's that are worth a try? Can we compare them without ending up in a cage-fight?
There are others out there, ranging from smaller (Drupal) to bigger (Typo3 and Plone, to name a few). Plus, there are interesting things being done on the multimedia front, like engagemedia.org are doing.
